Bible Text: Isaiah 11:1–10 | Preacher: Pastor Peter Gregory | “The stump of Jesse” doesn’t sound very promising (v 1). A stump, after all, is something cut off and chopped down, dead and lifeless. But then Isaiah says this: “There shall come forth a shoot” (v 1) risen up from that old and hopeless trunk. A new King will be born, a new and greater David, to establish a new kind of kingdom. The righteous reign of the Branch that Isaiah prophesied is none other than our Lord Jesus Christ and His rule in the Church and in the endless world to come.
