Three things were true even before the two men set out for Emmaus, and they remained true even when they returned: The tomb was empty. Jesus was alive. And redemption was accomplished. What was different? They were! Jesus walked with them in their sadness, opened to them the Scriptures, and revealed Himself in the breaking of the bread. In this way, He abides also with us.
